For seven months, Ryan worked for the award-winning Vanguard Documentary Series on Current TV. He assisted with several investigative news documentaries, covering issues such as the Mexican drug war, PTSD in U.S. combat troops, illegal immigration, and Big Tobacco's questionable marketing in developing nations.
He then joined the digital team at Southern California Public Radio (89.3 KPCC) in Pasadena, where he developed multimedia projects, contributed local news reports, and managed the station's social media outlets.
